Quilt for a Cousin

Hi,

Here is another quilt I have made. The quilt was for my younger cousin who enjoys music and robotics. I chose to use bright vibrant colors with dark colors for contrast. The neon star center blocks were my jumping off point for fabric choices.  The block is a quarter log cabin set on-point. The backing is my favorite fleece, but this time using a combination of three colors of fleece. I embroidered a label that included my cousins name and the year is was made. The quilt was finished for Christmas.

Thanks, Jess

Quilt for a Fishing Boy

Hi,

The quilt and pillow pictured below was made for a boy who has had a hard life. The one thing he enjoys is fishing. The quilt was created around this joy. My mom met this boy and wanted  me to make a quilt. We found the fish fabric and then started to pull other fabrics from my statch. The fabrics included a variety of camouflage and some recycle men's plaid shirts. The backing was two pieces of anti-pill fleece by go to batting and backing. My mom wanted to quilt to have a rounded circular pattern. She really liked the storm at sea pattern so I modified it to work with the fabrics I had. Because I had leftover blocks and backing fabric, I decided to make a matching pillow.  I named the quilt  "Fishing Holes".

Thanks, Jess

New Quilt Top

Hi all,

I have another quilt top to show you from the  dress left overs. I only used one of the fabrics. The plaid fabric seemed to be such a challenge for the dress makers because it is a muddy color and not very pretty for little girls. This worked out perfect for me.  I prefer to make boy quilts because I feel like they get gyped so much of the time. I had a small amount of this cowboy fabric that I was going to use for a pillowcase. I realized that it looked perfect with the plaid. So I pulled out come other colored scraps and set to work. I think it makes the plaid look perfect. What do you think?

Talk to you again soon......

PS. I found the perfect way to hang my quilts.  I am using a curtain rod with the clip curtain hangers. It works perfectly.

First "quilts"................

Hi again,

I could not even wait to show you my new stuff. First up the mug rugs with matching cup cozies. I like using much rugs to try new techniques, such as free motion quilting.

I have also worked on some quilts. You will find that I LOVE Scrap quilts. So I make a lot of scrap quilts.  These quilts are made for  Blanks for Linus. I was given scraps from the charity Girls Helping Girls. Where sewers donate fabric and make dresses for people in need. After the dress pieces were cut out they bag up a bunch of "scraps" and give them to quilters who quilt for Blankets for Linus. Here are two of the quilts I make from my bag of scraps. I have two more that are works in process. I usually try to make boy quilts but these needed to become girl quilts. I add from my fabric stash where and when needed. Please support these wonderful charities. All I am showing right now are the quilt tops. I hope you like.

This quilt was inspired by this quilt.  I used a few of the triangle blocks. I also used more scraps for the sashing. I thought a random placements of the triangles was best.  This is the layout I likes the best.

This quilt was  made up of the leftovers from the quilt above. Each center is made of multiple 1" strips. I likes the brick look of the blocks .

What are your favorite types of quilts to make?

Last quilt .....

Hi all,
I am still trying to get the hang of  this blogging thing.  I am not ,by any means, done quilting. This is the last quilt I finished on my old machines. Yes, I do mean machines. I seem to collect any machine I can find at a church sale, garage sale or any kind of sale.  This is good and bad. I have had some older machines that have been very good to me. But one by one they have died very sad deaths. Then everyone in my house, especially the blind dog, trip over them. So for christmas I recieved a new sewing machine. I say I love it at least ten times a day. I have so many new options with my new sewing maching. Here are a couple of images of my last quilt before my new Love.  This is my "scrappy" quilt I made for my neighbors. When we moved in to our new house we did not have a lawn more and our neighbors cut our grass for us multiple times. They woudl not let us reinburse them and I think they were getting sick of backed goods. So I created a  quilt that is  inspired by nature, they love gardening. Here are a few pictures of the quilt.

I love making the backs of my quilts creative.

Next post will have images of quilts made  with my new machine.....

PS. Forgive the mess in the background.

Some of my quilts.....

Hi all,

I am going to start with some of the quilts I have made. I started quilting to use my creative side to make things for charity. I made the following quilts for Blankets for Linus and have since delivered them. These were all started during the Ice Storm last year in Indianapolis. We had four snow days and I had a lot of free time being iced in. So I started to play with fabric and here is what I ended up with.
 Here are the pictures....

Here is a little quilt I ame with the left over fabric from another quilt.  I love the back.

These were my attempt at a zig zag quilt using a tutorial I found on http://beesquarefabrics.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-to-make-zig-zag-quilt-without.html . It uses strips and rectangels instead of HST.

This is the first quilt I made . It is a disappearing 9 patch.

I also love stars and I made this quilt with a boy in mind.
Stars and Pinwheels - I think they work together.

These quilts have gotten me to love making quilts. I have since made quilts for friends and am finally making one for myself. I am so excited.   All of the above quilts were started and finished in 2011. I will also post pictures of the other quilts I made in 2011, first I have to get them off my camera.
Through this blog you will hear about my love of yoyos, hexies, any kind of quilted star, and scrap quilts. I also love my quilts to be scrappy. Which is why I am excited about the Pleasent Home Sew Scrap Along.  Follow along with me.
